Joe’s VERZUZ battle with Donell Jones turned into a G-Unit moment when 50 Cent joined him onstage.
During the “R&B Nights” event, Joe brought out 50 to perform their 2003 collaboration “Wanna Get to Know You,” with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda also appearing, according to Complex. 50 and Joe also performed “Big Rich Town,” the theme song associated with the original Power series.
The appearance gave the battle one of its biggest surprise moments because it came from real history around Joe’s catalog—not a random celebrity cameo.
How the moment happened
Complex reports that Joe brought 50 out during the battle with Donell Jones. The G-Unit connection expanded from “Wanna Get to Know You” into “Big Rich Town,” linking two different eras of Joe’s career: his early-2000s rap collaborations and the television era that introduced his voice to another generation through Power.
Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda were also on hand.
Donell Jones had his own guest moment, bringing out 702 for “Get It Together,” a song he wrote and produced for the group in the 1990s.
