BigXthaPlug’s weekend took a sharp turn before he ever reached the Iowa State Fair.
The Dallas rapper, born Xavier Landum, was arrested Friday, August 21, in Allen, Texas, and booked into Collin County Jail. Allen police confirmed the arrest, and local reporting says he faces charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Those are charges, not convictions. The investigation remains active.
What happened in Texas
CBS Texas reported that Allen police arrested Landum Friday night and booked him into Collin County Jail. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth also reported the three charges from court records.
The timing immediately raised another question because BigXthaPlug was scheduled to headline the Iowa State Fair Grandstand the following night.
He ultimately made the show.
People reported that he was released in time to perform on Saturday, August 22, and that he acknowledged the arrest from the stage while thanking the crowd for being there.
That turned what initially looked like a possible cancellation into a very public return to work less than a day after being booked.
The Winnipeg show did not happen
Before Iowa, BigXthaPlug had also been scheduled to headline the Country Rising Festival in Winnipeg. Organizers said he would not appear because of a “personal emergency,” according to People.
The Iowa performance therefore became the first major public appearance after the arrest.
It also arrives during a period when BigXthaPlug has been expanding beyond a conventional rap lane. His recent music has leaned into country collaborations and Texas identity, widening his audience without abandoning the heavy voice and regional presence that built his original fanbase.
That crossover makes a high-profile state-fair booking culturally notable on its own. The arrest made the appearance a larger story.
Why the legal wording matters
BigXthaPlug has had previous arrests, including a 2025 case involving marijuana and firearm allegations, but RRL is not collapsing separate cases into one conclusion about guilt.
For the August 21, 2026 arrest, the confirmed facts are narrower: Allen police say an arrest was made; court and local-news reporting identify the current charges; and the investigation remains active.
Any later plea, dismissal, additional charge or court outcome should be treated as a new development rather than assumed from the arrest itself.

The most unusual part of this story is the speed of the turnaround.
A Friday-night arrest could have wiped out one of BigXthaPlug’s most visible crossover bookings. Instead, he was onstage at the Iowa State Fair Saturday night.
That does not erase the legal case, and it should not turn an arrest into entertainment. It does show how fast a touring artist’s legal, business and performance worlds can collide in public.
