Danny Brown is turning Atrocity Exhibition into a live anniversary event.
The Detroit rapper announced four shows this fall where he will perform the 2016 album front-to-back.
The run includes Los Angeles on Nov. 7, Chicago on Nov. 13, New York on Nov. 19 and Austin on Dec. 3.
The live dates are only one part of the anniversary.
A 10th anniversary edition of the album is also coming on vinyl and CD. Pitchfork reports that original sleeve designer Ed Davis created new artwork for the release, which also includes a commemorative booklet and previously unreleased instrumental versions of the album’s tracks.
The Fader reports the full-album shows will mark the first time Brown performs the project front-to-back in that format.
Atrocity Exhibition arrived in 2016 as Brown’s Warp debut and became one of the defining records in his catalog.
Ten years later, the rollout shows what can happen when an album develops a life beyond its original release week.
There is a live experience.
There is a new physical edition.
There is archival material.
And there is a reason for longtime listeners to re-enter the catalog without pretending the underlying album is new.
That is what a real anniversary campaign is supposed to do: make the history usable again.
