Eminem’s tribute to Dolly Parton is built around something much smaller than a stage performance or celebrity photo: a letter she took the time to send him four years ago.
After Parton’s death at age 80, Eminem shared the handwritten note she sent following his 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The two artists were inducted in the same class but never actually met.
Eminem said the message had a real impact on him and described Parton as an icon and “a superstar in every sense.”

What makes the note memorable is how direct it was.
Parton congratulated Eminem on the Hall of Fame honor and acknowledged that rap was not music she knew deeply. That did not stop her from recognizing the level he had reached in his own field.
She wrote to him as one artist recognizing another.
That carries extra weight because Eminem’s rise came from a genre and a world far removed from the country-music institution Parton represented. By 2022, both had become figures whose influence extended well beyond the categories they started in.
Eminem said he regretted that they never got the chance to meet.
Their Hall of Fame class connected two very different careers
Parton and Eminem were both inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 alongside artists including Lionel Richie, Duran Duran and Pat Benatar.
Parton initially questioned whether she belonged in the Rock Hall because of her country background before ultimately accepting the honor. Eminem entered from the other end of the musical map: a Detroit rapper whose career helped push hip-hop even further into global pop culture.
The note shows that those genre lines mattered less to Parton than the work itself.
That is also why Eminem’s response feels different from a standard celebrity tribute. He was not describing years of friendship. He was remembering a single act of generosity from somebody he admired from a distance.

And four years later, after her death, that is the interaction he chose to share.
