The Album Has a Final Title — and It Is Out Now
Erykah Badu and The Alchemist released their collaborative album Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment on Friday, August 28.
That resolves the biggest open question from the original RRL report. Earlier in the rollout, Abi & Alan had circulated publicly around the project, but the initial official release announcement did not present it as a confirmed final album title. The release-day presentation now gives the project its full name.
The album follows “Next To You,” “Echos 19 (mix 122)” and “Witch Doctor,” and arrives after roughly 18 months of sessions that the artists said took place in Dallas and Los Angeles.
The Project Ends a Long Full-Length Gap for Badu
The album is Badu’s first new full-length project in more than a decade.
That gap is part of why the collaboration has carried unusual weight. Badu’s catalog has never moved on a normal annual release cycle, and The Alchemist comes from almost the opposite rhythm: a producer whose recent career has been strengthened by a steady stream of highly specific collaborations.

The pairing could easily have been sold on names alone. Badu is one of the most singular voices in modern R&B and soul; Alchemist is one of rap’s most recognizable producers. The rollout instead let the records establish the relationship first.
The Title Adds Context to the Earlier ‘Abi & Alan’ Language
The phrase Abi & Alan did not disappear. It became part of the full album title rather than the complete title by itself.
