Ask Jim Jones who has hip-hop’s throne right now and his answer is Drake — but he does not think there is only one seat.
During a Hot 97 conversation, Jones said Drake currently has a throne, then pushed back on the idea that one rapper has to rule the entire culture. His point: hip-hop can have several kings at the same time.
That feels closer to how rap actually works now. One artist can own streaming while another owns a city, a generation, touring, the streets or the conversation. Those things overlap, but they are not the same scoreboard.
So Jones’ answer creates a better debate than simply asking who is No. 1.
If Drake has one throne right now, who else has earned one?
