Mac Miller’s The Divine Feminine is getting a new chapter for its 10th anniversary.
An expanded edition of the 2016 album is scheduled for October 2 through Warner, with three previously unreleased songs from the era included in the package, according to Pitchfork and Stereogum. One of those tracks, “Butterflies,” is now officially available.
The release gives fans new material from one of the most distinct periods in Miller’s catalog while continuing the estate’s careful approach to his archive.
What is included
Pitchfork reports that the 10th-anniversary edition will add three unreleased tracks. “Butterflies,” which had circulated unofficially before now, is the first of those songs to receive an official release.
Stereogum also reports that the expanded edition is due October 2 on Warner.
The original The Divine Feminine arrived in September 2016 and included collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Ariana Grande, Ty Dolla $ign, Bilal and CeeLo Green.
Why this era remains important
The Divine Feminine sits at a major transition point in Mac Miller’s career. By 2016, he had moved far beyond the version of himself some listeners associated with his earliest breakout years. The album leaned further into live instrumentation, melody, soul, jazz and more intimate writing.
Mac’s official archive describes the record as an album about love in different forms, and Warner’s press archive still preserves photography and artwork from that era.
That matters because an anniversary release can do more than put an old album back in front of listeners. It can reopen a specific creative period with new music and better context around what the artist was building at the time.
