Sean Combs’ projected release date from federal prison has changed again.
Bureau of Prisons records reviewed by PEOPLE now list Feb. 5, 2028 as the projected release date for Combs, who is serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
The previous publicly reported projection was Feb. 20, 2028.
The key word is projected. This is not a new sentence from the judge, and the latest change should not be described as a fresh 15-day sentence reduction unless federal authorities explain it that way.
What has actually changed
Combs was convicted in 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted on the more serious racketeering-conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges brought against him at trial. His legal team has appealed the conviction.
His prison-release projection has moved multiple times as his federal custody continues. PEOPLE previously reported a Feb. 20, 2028 date; its Sept. 3 report says the Bureau of Prisons record now shows Feb. 5.
The newest report does not establish a public reason for this specific adjustment.
Federal release projections can be affected by credit calculations, program participation and other administrative factors, but applying any particular explanation to Combs without documentation would be speculation.
The sentence itself has not been rewritten
That distinction is especially important around high-profile legal cases, where a date change can quickly become a misleading “sentence cut” headline.
Combs received a 50-month sentence. A projected release date is the Bureau of Prisons’ current calculation for when someone is expected to leave custody under the applicable credits and conditions. Those calculations can change while the underlying sentence remains the same.
Combs is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix and has been reported to be participating in a drug-treatment program. Whether that program or another factor caused the newest Feb. 5 projection has not been publicly confirmed.
What comes next
The Feb. 5, 2028 date is the current projection, not a promise that no further change will occur. His appeal is also separate from the Bureau of Prisons’ administrative release calculation.
For now, the accurate framing is narrow: the projected release date has moved forward to Feb. 5, 2028; the reason for this latest adjustment has not been publicly established.
