Yella Beezy’s capital murder trial is now scheduled to begin with jury selection on October 26.
The Dallas rapper, whose real name is Markies Conway, had been set to begin jury selection in September. Judge Chika Anyiam granted the defense’s request for more preparation time, and a new October 26 date was filed with the Dallas County Clerk, according to current reporting.
FOX 4 reported that Conway’s attorneys sought the continuance because they wanted the transcript from Kewon White’s recent trial and needed to work around expert-witness availability. Prosecutors did not oppose the delay.
A separate HotNewHipHop report, citing Dallas County clerk and court information, says Conway is expected back in court for a hearing on October 6. That date is being reported as an interim hearing; the clearer rescheduled trial checkpoint is October 26 jury selection.
White was convicted of capital murder earlier this month in the 2020 killing of Dallas rapper Mo3, whose real name was Melvin Noble. Dallas County prosecutors say White was the shooter and have described the killing as part of a murder-for-hire plan.
Prosecutors accuse Yella Beezy of arranging payment for the killing. Conway has pleaded not guilty and denied involvement.
White’s conviction does not establish Conway’s guilt. Yella Beezy will be tried separately, and the state will have to prove its case against him to a different jury.
White’s conviction and life-without-parole sentence remain a separate case. The next firm milestone for Conway’s trial is October 26 if the current schedule holds.
